These are just a few of the hats worn by fitness phenom Aspen Rae. Rae hails from San Jose, California, and is a beloved and inspiring fitness icon.

Rae’s journey toward becoming the lean, fit quasi-celeb you see today began in college. Although she spent much of her youth doing something she loves—running—it wasn’t until she started college that she started to go to the gym. With the help of a coach, she toned up her body and became addicted to the results she was seeing from working out. Rae would later say of her hard work that “It’s hard as f*ck to compete, but there’s no greater reward than getting to the point where you are ready to step on stage and show the world the hard work that you’ve been putting in.”

Raised in Northern California, Rae participated in marathons and was an accomplished long-distance cross-country runner. She was also on the swim team and was very athletic in general. Hitting the gym in college, Rae’s goal was to gain size while toning her frame—a feat she accomplished by working with a coach and lifting weights. Fitness shows followed, with Rae eager to show off her hard-earned physique.

She began with NPC bikini shows, transferring to the “figure” division soon after in 2016. By focusing on figure competitions, Rae was able to work harder on her body, minus any worry of gaining size, she notes. What resulted was what fans often remark about—her fully developed back, which Rae says is one of the strongest parts on her body.

Rae went on to begin webcam modeling—including nude modeling—and eventually landing adult acting roles. She posed for Penthouse shortly after.

Aspen Rae keeps her physique by dedicating one day to each of the muscle groups when working out. The exception to this is Rae’s legs; she trains two days a week with a focus on legs. She does some cardio but puts a lot of focus on her diet and eating plan.

Rae is extremely strict and very disciplined about what she eats. She is sure to weigh each gram to keep track of her macros, including protein, fat and carbs. Rae takes in six meals each day, with staples including almond butter and avocado to get in her fats, sweet potatoes and brown rice for quality carbs, and egg whites and lean meats for protein.

Even when Rae is not “dieting down” for a fitness competition or project, she sticks to essentially the same parameters in her diet. She weighs food. She eats six times a day. She does allow herself a cheat meal on occasion. In fact, Rae has a favorite cheat: a Pop Tart in the “off season” just before leg day.
